About the Artist

Blair Anderson, Metalsmith

Practicing the art and craft of silversmithing for over 25 years, Anderson has shown her work in over 30 galleries and juried exhibitions across the USA and Canada. She first studied under metal artist Vesta Ward in Southern California where Anderson fell in love with working in metal. Desiring to elevate her art form beyond mere adornment, she began to create works in silver that could be framed and displayed like other works of art.

Jewelry with Meaning

Why this theme?

I open my studio to those that I have taught. It is a nurturing atmosphere where people can explore their creativity. They also share their common experiences. I noticed that one of these common experiences was cancer.

One might expect it to be a gloomy subject. On the contrary what I discovered was the core of the human spirit. Words like transformation, strength, beauty, power, and love won over doubt and mourning.

Cancer survivors... this collection celebrates you!

Artist’s Statement

Adornment can represent social status, or wealth, but it can also reflect the life experiences of the wearer. My work strives to create objects that embody a meaning that is deeply held by the wearer and strikes a chord within the soul.

This collection takes its inspiration from distilling the triumphal stories of women who have survived cancer. Each work represent an experience, attitude and approach to life during and after their journey.
