    Brood XIX: Minding Your Muse

    The Greeks and Romans believed the cicada symbolized resurrection and immortality, and is sacred to Apollo because of its captivating song. It is said to watch the living to make sure they are minding the Muses. Mayan, Aztecs, Chinese, and Native American among other cultures all have cicada symbolism. Brood XIX born in 2011 will emerge to find a mate in 2024. This piece was cast from an actual bug from 2011.
